BOARD NEWS

The Board of Directors held its February board meeting on Tuesday, February 14, 2004, at 71 Glen Lake Drive. All directors were present.

NEW RULES

Regulation J, relating to architectural control has been amended. The purpose of the change is so that we end up with adjacent doors being the same color. Many metal doors are already 'almond' so the next metal door should be almond too. The

change becomes effective 30 days after distribution of this newsletter. The new language states:

“Existing metal garage doors, which do not require painting, are approved as to color and design as they exist in December 2004. Existing wooden garage doors will be painted by the Association as necessary.

An ACC request must be submitted whenever an owner wishes to replace a garage door. The new door will conform in color and design to existing doors. It is intended that the color of the new door match any adjacent door.”

PAINTING UPDATE

Our normal rainy winter weather has caused the final
touch up work and door painting to be postponed.  This work should be done between the
end of March and the first  part of April. Specific dates will be established for the painting of entry doors. The trim on the wood posts at the rear of the units will not be painted.

GARDENING AND GROUNDS MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Spring is just around the corner, the pollen is heavy in the air and on the ground, and replanting of some areas of The Glen will begin. Prior to the painting of the exteriors, we pulled out some old or dead plants. Now that the painting is essentially complete, we can begin work on the grounds. In the past months, Rodger and I, along with several Board members, have met with Susan McDonald-Brodey of Property Services Garden Maintenance to discuss the grounds upkeep and any items of concern. Our common goal is to maintain the beauty and health of the grounds of The Glen and to establish good communications between the Gardening Committee and Susan, her crew, and the residents of The Glen.

In addition, the Gardening Committee is at present taking care of the trees on the property. Clean up work has been accomplished with the first priority to remove dead or diseased trees. We are using Robert’s Tree Service. If there are any arborists in The Glen, we would welcome your expertise.

Items to note:

If you have any concerns or requests, please write us a note, include Unit #, and contact name and phone number. Put the written request in The Glen mailbox. We then pass this

1.       information on to Susan or the tree service company. This also cuts down on the time the gardeners are interrupted (while working on the grounds) to talk to individual residents. They are contracted for a certain number of hours per week to accomplish the work.

2.       If you hire contractors to work on your unit (carpenters, plumbers, painters, etc.) please ask them to clean up any debris created by their efforts. Frequently, debris from such work is being left behind garages for the garden crew to dispose of. This takes away from the time the garden crew is contracted to perform gardening tasks.

3.       “If your dog poops, you must scoop.” So that we may continue to live in harmony with our neighbors, our beloved four-legged friends, and the land, please, clean up after your dog. As I walk the grounds, I find more evidence that folks are neglecting this important task.

Thanks for your assistance in these matters.

PARKING

Glen Lake Drive is a designated fire lane. Please do not park on Glen Lake Drive at any time. Vehicles so parked are subject to towing without notice.
Parking of vehicles in driveways is unsightly and discouraged.  If a vehicle is parked in a driveway, the vehicle must be parked perpendicular to Glen Lake Drive and must not extend beyond the driveway onto Glen Lake Drive.

RULES ENFORCEMENT

Some residents are not complying with our Rules and Regulations. If you do not want to see the Rules Enforcement Committee resurrected, please comply with our Rules and Regulation and ask your fellow neighbors to comply.

POLICE ACADEMY

The City of Pacific Grove Police Department will be offering a twelve week Citizens Academy Training Program beginning February 15th and concluding May 3rd. The Citizens Academy provides community members with an inside look at local law enforcement but is not designed to train the participant to be a police officer. Topics include police ethics, criminal law, drug and traffic enforcement, community oriented policing strategies, and more,. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Pacific Grove Police Department. The classes are certified through Monterey Peninsula College. There is no charge. Class size is limited to 24 students. Potential candidates must be 21 years old, live or work in Pacific Grove, have no felony convictions, have no assault or battery or weapons convictions within the past 10 years, and no misdemeanor arrests within the last 3 years. Applications may be picked up at the Pacific Grove Police Department at 580 Pine Street. Inquiries should be addressed to Community Services Sgt. Cameron White at 648-3143 or 648-3122.

VOLUNTEERS

The Board is always looking for volunteers to serve on Board committees. We have a

committee preparing our Reserve Analysis, Welcoming, Financing, Gardening, web site, etc. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact the chairperson of that committee or Diana Busman or come to a Board meeting or call The Glen phone number (642-2441).
