3.0   Painting Contract:

The Board received 4 bids ranging from $110,000 to $190,000. The Board discarded the high and low bids. The low bid was ridiculously low, less than the bid for the 1996 painting job which ended in litigation when The Glen had to sue Saleh Painting to finish the job. The high bid was significantly higher than the next highest bid. The Paint Committee, consisting of Rutherford and Rodger Axt, looked at one Ekim Painting project (Spanish Bay) and two Walls Painting projects (San Carlos Village in Soquel and Seascape). That committee found Walls Painting to be superior to Ekim but recommended Ekim because his bid was $34,000 less than Walls. Motion by Jim Ray, seconded by Jack Rugar, to hire Ekim Painting at $134,000 with an inspector to be hired to inspect the job on a daily basis. Motion passed.
