BOARD NEWS

The Board’s regular monthly meeting was held September 23, 2003 at Shoreline Office Building. All Board members were in attendance in addition to residents Pat and Sandy Claus (#7), Wolfgang Haas (#11), Roger Axt (#13), Carol Rutherford (#36), Faye and Ken Morley (#86), Rick Busman (#71), and Stephanie Lee (#104).

Treasurer Ray reported that the Reserve Account will be under funded by 2006 if we proceed with adding gutters and that the board needs to meet to review new projections of the Reserve Account. Since the purpose of the gutters is to prolong the life of the roofs, the board voted to approve installation of the gutters. A special board meeting will be scheduled for the following week to review projections of the Reserve Account.

ANNUAL MEETING

Our annual meeting will be held on Thursday, November 6th at 7 PM at the Shoreline Office Building (right outside the Upper Glen’s gate), 1200 Piedmont, in the first floor meeting room. Three directors will be elected. Voting will be cumulative (you can vote for one person 3 times or 3 people one time). Come prepared to vote.

GUTTER WORK

Starting on the week of October 13th, the company Sun Rain will be
installing additional gutters on all units. This work may take two weeks or more. Sun Rain will not require access nor should they present any inconvenience. If possible, they will notify you before beginning work on your building. Thank you for your cooperation.

PRESIDENT’S COLUMN

by Candy Pollock

For the first time in years, we seem to be balancing the age population in The Glen! Have you noticed all the babies! For so long, there were only 2 young children living in our neighborhood and now we have at least 6 with a couple more on the way! And I’m pleased to include my new granddaughter since I am her day care. There are a couple toddlers about, so this is a good time to remind everyone about safety. Use good judgment about the lake and remember to drive slowly and with caution!  The speed bumps are there for a reason.

I want to use this opportunity to thank everyone for your support during the difficult days following the birth of my grandchild. We are now happy to report a positive prognosis for Mia. I was so pleased to be able to somewhat give back to UCSF and the Family House that gave my kids a free place to stay for those 2 weeks there. The impromptu food drive resulted in 4 boxes of food that replenished the Family House pantry. Many families were already enjoying your donated items by the time we were able to come home.  What a wonderful show of support and my family thanks you!

The Glen continues to be a very busy place. Being 20 years old means repairs and improvements both expected and unexpected. This board has diligently tried to keep up with all of this. I couldn’t have picked a better group to work with this past year. Jack Rutherford oversees all maintenance issues. This takes a tremendous amount of time every week. I don’t think there is a square inch of property in The Glen that Jack is unfamiliar with!

Jim Ray has worked on our finances over the past two years and has put systems in place to monitor all expenditures. He works closely with MCC to accomplish this. I appreciate Jim’s diligence in safeguarding The Glen’s monies.

Jack Rugar has great understanding of most all aspects of The Glen and easily steps in to take over in any one’s absence. His daily walks of the property help him to identify potential problems. By the time I find out about something, he often has a solution in place!

Glen Grossman has done a great job in record keeping and in getting out our newsletter. He has also created The Glen web site. For those of you with computers, take a look at our site. We want the site to provide you with information on The Glen. Please let us know if you have ideas for the site and also if you’d like to help in the development.

For me, the best part of being a board member is getting to know the residents in The Glen. We are lucky to live in such a friendly and caring neighborhood. Soon, we’ll be posting the date for our annual meeting. We’ll hope to see you there!

ODDS & ENDS

* While on walks throughout the complex, should you see a piece of trash, please stop and pick it up. If we all do a little extra, it would help everyone in the complex and help defray some of our costs. This property belongs to all of us.

* With so many new residents in The Glen, you will see people you do not recognize. It is perfectly o.k. to ask strangers to identify themselves and where they live. If you are uncomfortable doing that, it is ok to call the Pacific Grove non-emergency line 648-3143. Remember to lock your doors; don’t be a victim.

* If you plan to have a satellite dish installed, you must obtain permission from the Architectural Control Committee.

* Please do not feed the pigeons. They are creating a mess! Pigeons spread diseases that can infect humans. Pigeon feed attracts rats.

* We still have people speeding in The Glen. The Glen speed limit is 15 mph. Please, SLOW DOWN!!!

* On non-garbage days, garbage cans belong indoors; not on the street or on the side of your unit;

* Anyone who wants to work on The Glen website, please call 642-2441 and let us know your name and e-mail address.

* “Guest Parking” is for guests; it is not for use by residents.

* Copies of Association documents (minutes, CPA reports, reserve studies, etc.) are generally available. Check the website first to see if you can download it. If it is not there, call Joseph and ask him for a copy.

NEXT BOARD MEETING

October 21, 2003 at 4:45 at Shoreline Community offices.   All residents are invited to attend.
